Richmond Kickers Advance With The Rest Of MLS In Round 3

This was the round proper where the lower sides had to show their metal against the MLS sides as Round three proper came to the US Open Cup. Battle for Los Angels and battle for New York was very exciting to see while a former Texas club that moved to a Central Florida city came back to face FC Dallas and fireworks were early and late.

FC Dallas Vs Orlando City
You have to think to yourself that the supporters of the former Austin Aztex wanted revenge as they would back FC Dallas in their round three match up against Orlando City S.C. The visitors got on the board first as Max Griffin converted in the 24th minute only with Jackson Goncalves equalizing in 39th. It ended at one a piece at the half. But in the 50th minunte Ricardo Villar gave FC Dallas the lead and it seemed to be the end of the match.

But with three minutes of stoppage time added the fireworks exploded as Orlando found the equalizer as Yordany Alvarez gets it in the third minute and it looked like there was going to be extra time, but the on field officials gave an extra two minutes of stoppage time and Pizza Hut Park erupted on the last play of the game. On a free kick Milton Rodriguez got into position to score the match winner and FC Dallas advances to the Quarterfinals.

Columbus Vs Richmond

There are many people who feel that the victory by the Richmond Kickers over the Columbus Crew was an upset, but in my opinion the Crew is still a work in progress and while they were improving during league play, the Kickers have two big time strikers in David Bulow & Matthew Dellicate that can tear apart a young side.

But it was a Japanese import in Nozomi Hiroyama that got the Kickers on the board in the 20th minute, but Cole Grossman equalized in the 37th. But things went south for the Crew in the 67th minute as Danny O’Rourke got sent off for a reckless challenge and that was all the advantage the Kickers needs as Dellicate got the match winner in the 85th minute

Sporting Kansas City Vs Chi. Fire Premier (PDL)
It’s a historical moment in US Soccer history when you have two new stadiums hosting their first US Open Cup Round Match Proper in Red Bull Arena and Livestrong Sporting Park. Sporting got off on the right foot early in the 3rd as Teal Bunbury put his head on a free kick and from that point on they never looked back. Milos Stojcev added his goal in the 58th & Kei Kamara converts two minutes later.
